Layne started his career in construction after he finished his service with the US Army. He has worked in most construction trades and was a superintendent for a general contractor, managing commercial and industrial projects. When the market slowed, he took the opportunity to go back to school and earned his Master’s degree in Structural Geology and Sedimentology from Northern Arizona University. After college, he worked as an Environmental Quality regulator for Coconino County; performing wastewater plan reviews, site and soil analysis, and inspecting the final wastewater system installations. Here, he earned his Registered Sanitarian and Registered Environmental Health Specialist credentials. In 2018, he established LT Environmental Services LLC and began the journey of designing wastewater systems, performing soil analysis, and consulting for all stages of the wastewater system process. He partnered with Steve Sorden in 2024, and together, they expanded the company to what it is today.
